Governor Committee Structure
The structure of the Governing Body
Our formal Instrument of Government states that the Governing Body comprises:
-
Two parent governors, elected by parents
-
One Local Authority governor, appointed by Bristol City Council
-
One staff governor, elected by staff
-
Twelve co-opted governors, appointed by the Governing Body for their particular skills
-
The Executive Headteacher.
The way we work
The Co-chairs of Governors are currently Graham Symonds (Co-opted Governor) and Peter Searle-Barnes (Co-opted Governor). The Vice Chair is currently Maureen Salter (Co-opted Governor).
The full Governing Body meets termly (six times per year) with an extra meeting at the start of Term 1 for procedural business including reaffirming its Terms of Reference, Scheme of Delegation and Code of Conduct. There is an annual meeting schedule for the current school year. The Governing Body is supported by Named Governors for Safeguarding, Equalities and Governing Body Development.
Two committees enable more detailed scrutiny of specific areas. These are:
Learning, curriculum and teaching. Their work is supported by Link Governors to each area of the School Development Plan and Named Governors for Mental health, Careers, Children-in-care and Targeted funding.
Finance and Resources - Finance, staffing, the site, buildings and other operational matters. Their work is supported by Named Governors for Health & Safety and Information Management.
Committees meet between three and five times a year. Other committees, panels and working groups are appointed for single, specific purposes.
