Following on from last year’s successful week, sports week in promised to be bigger and better. Across the week, pupils from all sites were offered the opportunity to take part in a sport or leisure opportunity each day.
Pupils were able to try archery, pioneering, bushcraft, trampolining, bouldering, orienteering, swimming, sailing and a bungee run. Some pupils also took part in the Wesport Summer School games, representing the school against other schools from Bristol and South Gloucestshire, North Somerset and Bath. There was also the chance for selected pupils from Napier Miles secondary and Brightstowe to battle it out for the honour of their site in a 4 team round robin football competition.
The week was crowned by a whole school sponsored walk/run around the Kingsweston Estate, where pupils from Brightstowe, Shirehampton and Napier Miles were joined by families and friends and challenged to complete as many laps of the estate as possible in an hour. Afterwhich, we all had a picnic together. We managed to raise £236.70 for WaterAid projects in Nepal, which the school council had decided upon.
We are grateful for the Blakewell Foundation who provided some sponsorship for this.
The week was a huge success, with pupils enthusiastically joining in and trying all of the activities. Particular highlights were swimming at Portishead Open Air pool, Bushcraft; lighting fires using flint and cooking marshmallows and the coming together of the 3 sites for a community sponsored event.
Well done everybody!
