Pupils at Kingsweston are supported to make a meaningful contribution to school life and how the school is run.
We have different ways in which this is done including pupil’s views at their Annual Reviews, end of year reports, through questionnaires and surveys and asking for ideas on school improvements.
The ability to understand and communicate are the most important areas of learning. We ensure that pupils are given a ‘voice’ to communicate. This ‘voice’ could be using words, objects, photographs, pictures, symbols, touch cues or body language.
We aim to empower our pupils by giving them opportunities to make choices about the things that they believe to be important. For example choosing resources for the playground or what snack items are bought for their class. Although some of our pupils may find it difficult to articulate their feelings and concerns; staff are attuned to observe and give voice to preferences demonstrated through action and/or reaction.
This year the pupils chose to ask for more Trunkies in our Playpod top-ups and large outdoor chalkboards.
